Sara Manus joined the University of Miami Libraries in August of 2023 as the Director of the Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library and Technology Center. She is fostering collaborative relationships between the UM Libraries and faculty, students, and researchers at the Frost School of Music and the broader university community. Sara leads an outstanding team of subject and technology specialists at the Weeks Music Library to build outstanding collections, services, and spaces for users.
Prior to joining UM, Sara worked at Vanderbilt University's Anne Potter Wilson Music Library from 2005 until 2023. As the Music Librarian for Education and Outreach, she coordinated the music information literacy program for the Blair School of Music, served as primary music reference librarian, and helped to develop the Wilson Music Library's physical and electronic collections. Sara was actively involved in Vanderbilt's partnership with the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM), and secured funding for three archival purchases, including hip hop posters and photographs.
Sara is an active member of the Music Library Association and its Southeast Chapter (SEMLA). She serves as an adjunct faculty member at SUNY Buffalo, teaching the Music Librarianship I course. Sara's publications and presentations have focused on music information literacy, outreach, diversity and inclusion, and mental health advocacy.
Sara earned her MA in musicology and her MLS simultaneously at Indiana University, Bloomington (2005). She also holds a BA in music from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN.
