Thilani Samarakoon joined the University of Miami in March 2020 as Biomedical Data Librarian. She is a member of the Research Data & Open Scholarship unit within the University of Miami Libraries.
In her role, Thilani supports faculty, researchers, and students at the University of Miami’s medical campus by providing a wide range of data services, including data analysis, data visualization support, and instruction in multiple tools for data analysis and visualization. She also assists with the systematic review process, offering consultations and guidance on data extraction, synthesis, and meta-analysis.
She earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Kansas State University in 2010, where her dissertation focused on the early detection and treatment of cancers. She completed her Master of Library and Information Science at Valdosta State University in 2024. She has more than eight years of experience in scientific research and has co-authored ten publications. Before joining the University of Miami, Thilani worked at the University of Utah, where she was the Project Coordinator for the Department of Pharmaceutics.
