What is MCBC?

The Miami Craft Brewery Collection, established in 2019, provides a distinct insight into Miami’s drinking culture. Different in nature from trendy bars and South Beach clubs, craft breweries have cultivated micro-communities within the walls of their taprooms that support the local origins and the artisanal quality of beer. This collection contains artifacts - bottle labels, keg collars, glassware, and advertising ephemera - related to both what and where people drink craft beer in Miami.

Why archive breweries?

Fermented beverages have been around as long as civilization, and some argue that it is these types of beverages that first prompted domesticated agriculture, and thus, civilization itself. The ingredients and methods used in the ancient production of beer-like products has helped scholars glean profound insights into the social structures, migration patterns, and religious beliefs of distant groups of people. More recently, America’s beer story tells a unique tale of the twentieth century through the debates of Prohibition, social stigmas exploited through advertising, and a distinct saloon culture; the hope of this collection is to help unravel the unique culture of Miami through the study of craft beer.
