José Vila is the Cataloging & Metadata Management Librarian at University of Miami Libraries. He is responsible for creation, maintenance, and enhancement of metadata across multiple discovery platforms and library systems, ensuring the quality of metadata and cataloging records.
José is a recent graduate of the Master of Science in Information (MSI) from Florida State University with a concentration in Information Organization. During his graduate studies, he was a recipient of the American Library Association Spectrum Scholarship. He also earned a Bachelor and a Master in Library and Information Science from Complutense University of Madrid, Spain.
Prior to his appointment, José worked in various jobs in libraries and information centers in the United States, Belgium, and Spain. His main interests are rare book cataloging, improving workflow efficiencies, and quality control in cataloging departments.
José is involved with the SEFLIN (Southeast Florida Library Information Network) Cataloging Group and is a member of the ALA (American Library Association), Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures, and IRRT ALA (International Relations Round Table Committee).
